Soil saline-alkalization stress reduces crop yield and leads to plant mortality globally. Identifying novel saline-alkali tolerance genes is key to breeding stress-resistant variants to combat the negative effects of stress and secure food, and to conserving species. SaGP provides the first known machine learning model to identify plant saline-alkali tolerance genes. It outperformed traditional computational tools, BLAST and PHMMER and correctly identified the latest published genes. SaGP can be used for the large-scale identification of saline-alkali tolerance genes, thus promoting crop breeding and plant conservation.
